Expect traffic chaos in the resort of Puerto del Carmen this weekend! The main strip - Avenida de Las Playas will be closed from 14:00 on Saturday 17th July for the Lanzarote Pride Festival 2010 parade taking place later that afternoon. Seizing the opportunity of the road being closed the Ayuntamiento de Tías decided that this was the perfect time to reverse the traffic flow along the front of the resort.
The section of road closing is from Calle Timanfaya (Hotel Fariones) up to Avenida Italia (Hotel San Antonio) which will re-open on Tuesday morning 07:00 20th July 2010. All of the back streets will also need to be re-organised so that the traffic can flow up and down from the Avenida de Las Playas.
Although a massive change this is one that the local residents and businesses have been campaigning for since the new look one way front was opened a year ago. The consensus was that tourists arriving from the airport or using the local bus services were taken through an un attractive longer route of back streets when arriving in Puerto del Carmen. The traffic from next week will flow in a Southerly direction from the airport along the front towards the old town of Puerto del Carmen.
