Two Lanzarote mothers, Angela Nudds and Louise Sverud launched a new website on the 1st January 2010 called greenbie. The website is an interactive blog with greenbies of all ages who have an interest in changing their lifestyles for a greener planet. Angie is from the UK and Louise from Sweden, so the greenbie website has articles and information in three languages (English, Swedish & Spanish) and has already been attracting lots of interest throughout Europe and America. Both Angela and Louise hope that by combining their expertise in education, IT, marketing and languages www.greenbie.org will become one of the largest green networks in Europe.
To mark the launch of the website, greenbie arranged for Treeflights to plant a tree in their name. The tree chosen is a Sweet Chestnut which will be planted in February above the town of Lanjaron in the Sierra Nevada, Spain. Once planted, greenbie will be given the GPS co-ordinates of the tree so that it can be seen on Google Earth. Angie and Louise have pledged to plant a tree for every 250 members that join, so spread the word and sign up to their website so they can plant more trees!
Angie commented “I believe that if we all changed our lifestyles just a little to become more green, it would collectively make a difference. I hope the blog becomes a community effort; that anyone with a green story to tell, ideas to share is more than welcome to make a contribution, just email us!”
You can join greenbie on their blog, Facebook or Twitter. They are looking for people in Lanzarote who are interested in telling their green story from the installation of solar panels, using domestic wind generators to recycling domestic waste. Please contact Angela by email: angie@greenbie.org.
